Art Deco Inspired Sapphire Double Halo Ring

Earlier this year, I was commissioned to make this beautiful custom double halo engagement ring with a 1.41ct Hearts on Fire diamond center: http://monicatsao.com/blog/diamond-and-jewelry-conventions/double-halo-art-deco-diamond-ring/.

A month ago, my client and his fiancee came in again to look at wedding bands, and also inquired about having a ring made for her 21 year old daughter. She and her mom are extremely close and share the same tastes in jewelry, so she had given input for the making of her mom’s engagement ring and of course loved how it turned out. So, they decided to have a “mini” version made for her, to surprise her with at their wedding in April.

She wanted to keep the same aesthetics so they looked like a ‘matching’ pair of rings, but also different enough to be interesting. We discussed quite a few options, including a single halo, combinations of sapphire and diamonds, different halo designs… in the end, she opted to keep the design as similar as possible and just reverse the sapphire/diamond stone combination. Also because it is a smaller ring overall, I suggested doing the band without diamonds and keeping the same milgraining and groove details.

I showed her two round sapphires for the center stone – one incredibly fine, 0.87ct round and a beautiful 1.03ct round that was slightly deeper blue. She went with the larger one and trusted me to handle the smaller details, as we made her custom engagement ring previously.

I sorted out the diamonds and matching fine blue small sapphires for the double halo, and we crafted the ring in 950 platinum. Here are the mother and daughter rings side by side:

Both rings look even more beautiful in person! All of the detailing, especially the milgrain, are extremely fine. They are so pleased with how the ring turned out, and can’t wait to present to their daughter at the wedding!
