Custom Pave 4-Prong Diamond Engagement Ring

This client came to us because he heard we do great custom work, and he wantedto get a custom made setting for his own diamond. His plan is to officially propose to his girlfriend when he visits her in Toronto in three weeks, where she’s currently doing her residency. The timeline is a little tight, since they are “engaged to be engaged”… both of their families know and are expecting to see the ring soon!

He wanted something timeless and simple, to highlight the center stone but wasn’t sold on any particular setting yet. After looking through some of our Hearts on Fire rings in the store, he narrowed it down to either a halo or a solitaire with pave band. Since the diamond is a 1.5ct, I told him with a halo surround it would end up looking quite blingy. That’s not the aesthetic he is going for, so he opted for the halfway pave style band.

Since his priority is having it clean and simple, we designed it with a 4-claw head with flowing lines and employed a pave style that uses less metal, so the sparkle of the diamonds is more visible. Using 19K gold, a durable and naturally white alloy – below is the rough mounting:

Clients sometimes ask me what is the difference between a hand forged ring and a ready-made or machine made ring? The best analogy I can come up with is the difference between an off-the-rack suit and a bespoke suit. A bespoke suit will often last longer through using higher quality materials and craftsmanship, fits like a dream, and make the wearer feel amazing. People also notice quality, even if they can’t quite pinpoint exactly what it is.

And unlike a suit, an engagement ring or wedding band is meant to be worn every day, so it is a more worthwhile investment in quality. Even better, a custom setting can actually be affordable for most budgets (just ask me!).

I’ll let the pictures do the talking, here is the finished piece:

He couldn’t stop staring at the ring, and I’m sure she will feel the same way!
